Whirlaways Time Compared With Worlds Standard LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 1.— The time record for the Kentucky Derby is 2:0125, which the Calumet Farms Whirlaway set in winning the mile and one-quarter classic for three -year-olds at Churchill Downs last May. He lowered by two-fifths of a second the previous mark which Twenty Grand hung up in capturing the stake in 1931. The North American record for a mile and a quarter is 2:00, which Whisk Broom II. set at Belmont Park in 1913, while the worlds mark for the distance is the 1:59% credited to Saint Andrews H. in 1939 at Brighton Park, England. Both these marks, however, are discredited. In the case of Whisk Broom n.s time, a number of observers clocked him in somewhat slower time, while Saint Andrews II. accomplished his feat on a track that admittedly is not lev:l.
