Collins Sweet Willow, one of the speediest members of her sex division to ever strut her stuff in New England will attempt what has heretofore been regarded as the impossible, when she goes to the post in the fifth running of the Tomasello Memorial Handicap, ,000 added, six-furlong affair, which will feature the Decoration Day card at Suffolk Downs. The five-year-old daughter of Lee O. Cotner and Sweeping Willow will be attempting to duplicate her feat of last year in winning this event in advance of Air Brigade and Sassy Lady. No stakes event now on the Suffolk Downs program has ever been won twice by the same horse, although such good ones as Discovery, Challedon and Time Supply have attempted to accomplish that objective in the past. Among those who will be opposing the Collins filly in the race named for the late contractor who built Suffolk Downs, are the Circle S Stables Carmenita, Mrs. Robert Campbells Hicomb, Bernard B. Robinsons Woof Woof, J. Yancey Christmas Rough Time, Stuart and Nimkoffs Watch Over, John L. Sullivans Transfigure, E. C. Eastwoods Challamore, Mrs. Tilyou Christophers Doubt Not, Louis B. Mayers Two Ton Tony and the Pine Tree Farms Valdina Alpha. Howell Rides Shifty Mare Although she is top weight of the field, Sweet Willow is toting one pound less than she carried to victory last .year in her burden of 119 pounds. Robert "Red" Howell, who was aboard the mare when she won the Blackstone Valley Handicap in her last start, will again have the mount on her. Because of her excellent record in New England racing, plus the fact that she has shown conclusively that she is fit and has the class, Sweet Willow will probably go to the post as the prohibitive favorite. Hicomb, Woof Woof, Transfigure and Valdina Alpha will be her rivals for support, as will Doubt Not and Zacatine, shipped in from New York to fill their assignments in this event. One of the largest crowds of the New England season annually turns out for the Decoration Day card at Suffolk Downs. The fact that the holiday this year falls on Saturday will not hurt the attendance. In addition to the feature event, Charlie McClennan has arranged a fine supporting card, including two events of a mile and a half. The Cohasset Handicap, a mile and a sixteenth race for ,500 added, is the supplementary feature of the card. Phil Biebers Maechance, Bernard B. Robinsons No Competition, Charles E. Nelsons Alaking, Benjamin P. Listers Bell Tower, Circle S Stables Hysterical and Wise Father, A. G. Tarns Bulwark, and Mrs. E. J. Montis English Setter will contest the issue in this event. This field is a high-class one in itself. No Competition won the 0,000 added Rhode Island Handicap at Narragansett, while Hysterical dead-heated with Sir Jeffrey at the end of the Governors Handicap on the first Saturday of the meeting.
