Before a Memorial Day gathering that is expected to fill every nook and corner of the woodland Stanton course of the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association, the ,000 added Wilmington Handicap will have its sixth running and this six-furlong dash attracted an overnight field of twelve. The dozen, products of Maryland, New York and New England racing, include some of the leading sprinters in the country and Inwood Stables Cape Cod, winner of the Bowie Handicap, will shoulder the top burden of 121 pounds. This four-year-old son of Bostonian was the high weight for the Jennings Handicap, but did not fill his engagement. Tomorrows effort wilLbe his first since May 9 when he finished second to Warlock in the General McArthur Handicap. Ocean Blue, Crispin Oglebays swift-running son of Blue Larkspur, who led Bay-View, among others, to the finish of the Liotf dOr Handicap at Belmont Park, will carry 120 pounds or two pounds more than alloted G. R. Watkins Clyde Tolson. The latter has turned in several fine trials over the local track and appears to be approaching his fine form-of 1941. Madigama Out for Repeat Another top-notch speedster who has displayed his wares for the benefit of Maryland, New England and New York fans, is Mrs. Tom Christophers Doublrab and this gray son of Sherab will tote 114 pounds, the same package as assigned Brandywine Stables Madigama, The latter, Donald Pi Ross unsexed son of Gino, defeated a fine fieid in the 1941 running of the Wilmington and has been training in excellent style. Winner of the 1941 Santa Anita Handicap and a good second to Ocean Blue in the Lion dOr Handicap, Bay View will be making his second start of the year and his third since his rich West Coast victory. Bay View will carry 112 pounds, an increase of three pounds over his Lion dOr allotment, but Ocean Blue will pick up four pounds. They carried 109 and 116 pounds respectively in that Belmont Park event. Other invalders from New York are Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Dawn Attack, Mrs. A. Crouchs Happy Note and Glen Riddle Farms The Finest. Their weights are 110, 105 and 108 pounds, respectively. The venerable Jay Jay, who has carried Howard Bruces colors to many important triumphs, Ella K. Brysons Joe Ray, under 109 pounds, and J. Fred Adams Wesley A. complete the field. Jay Jay, now in his ninth year, is weighted at 110 pounds and Wesley A.s assignment of 98 pounds is the minimum. Joe Ray scored in a rough and tumble race at Pimlico and then was well beaten in the Jennings Handicap.
