Opening Dash at Detroit Taken by Gallant Hour DETROIT, Mich., May 29. Gallant Hour, a five-year-old son of Morvich Lady Gallivant, racing under the silks of Mrs. R. Grundy, accounted for the first race, at six furlongs, at the Detroit Fair Grounds today. Given a clever ride by Eric Guerin, Gallant Hour came to the end of his trip three-quarters of a length in advance of Grissom and Shermans Erin Torch, and the latter enjoyed a half length advantage over R. A. Connells Booter Mc at the wire. The favored Sherlock could do no better than fourth in the 11 -horse field. Gallant Houra member of the mutuel field, made his first trip to the post during the 1942 season and, after turning the distance over the fast track in 1:12, rewarded his -supporters with an 8.20 payoff. Darby Dan Farms Darby Demon was up in the stretch to take a three-quarters length decision from Mrs. T. Jolleys favored Miah in the second race which engaged 10 colts and geldings at six furlongs. B. W. Stivers Bragabout closed fast to take the minor portion of the purse two and one-half lengths back. Darby Demon continued the success of the outsiders, paying 9.40 and completing the Daily Double, worth 80.80.
