Ak-Sar-Ben Prepares For Its Biggest Day Twelve of Best Sprinters on Grounds in Memorial Handicap OMAHA, Neb., May 29. Final plans for what is certain to be the biggest day of the current 30-day meeting at Ak-Sar-Ben have been completed and all departments are ready to handle the large turnout of turf patrons. The meeting, which is a nonprofit affair, the profits to be used to buy equipment for the various camps in this vicinity, has proved very successful thus far. The Memorial Handicap, which will headline the Decoration Day program of eight events, is for three-year-olds and upward to compete for ,200 over the sprint course of six furlongs, brings out 12 of the best sprinters on the grounds to vie for honors. For the most part this feature event is made up of horses who were seen in action on the opening day in the Inaugural Handicap, in which three horses finished heads apart. Par Avion, who finished second to The Nizam in that affair, seems to have the edge with the way he is weighted. The E. A. Simpson silk bearer again will pack 114 pounds and, with The Nizam picking up three pounds, may go to the post the favorite. The four-year-old son of Ariel and Windlass, a bit slow to settle into stride in his last outing here, was a strongly closing colt at the end and was going to take the top honors in another few strides. His recent breezes have been impressive and he appears to be at his peak form for this event. The Nizam, who carried the silks of R. Basnett to victory in the Inaugural Handicap by a scant nose, looms as the most dangerous foe in the Memorial Day Handicap. This seven-year-old gelding will be required to tote three pounds more than he did when he won his last race. The gelded son of Hallucination is a fast breaker and will be right there with the pace throughout. The MemorialDay Handicap, of which there is a full field, is rounded out with. such good sprinters as O. K. Mullen, Memphis, Maihigh, Outbid, Maisco, Trim Stepper, All Lizzie, Chi, Scar Leg and Lady Psychic. With the exception of Scar Leg Outbid and Memphis, all the others have been seen in action here at this meeting the first week. Racing secretary R. A. Leigh has surrounded the Decoration Day feature with seven well-matched events and for the first time since this meeting got under way the fans will have an opportunity to see three distance affairs of a mile and over. The longer route races have always been very popular with the Ak-Sar-Ben patrons. Post time for the first event will remain at 2:00 p. m.
