Hotel Cleveland Will Test Seven Well-Matched Sprinters in Inaugural Feature of Spring Meeting at Thistle Down WARRENSVTLLE, Ohio, May 29. The spring meeting of the Thristle Down Racing Association gets under way tomorrow with the Hotel Cleveland Purse for three-year-olds and upward headlining the program. All of the 700 stalls are filled or reserved with the overflow being taken care of at two large barns outside the grounds. It is expected that candidates for the many handicaps will be transferred from Detroit to fulfill their engagements. The feature event will be contested by seven evenly matched thoroughbreds over a distance of six furlongs for a purse of ,000. Top weights in the field are Mc-Kelvey and Valentines Gallee and Soup and Fish, the property of J. D. Rodgers, who are to carry 115 pounds each. G. Gilberts Quarterback, who has been clocked the distance in 1:14 handily, will come in for his share of support, as will T. Felices light-weighted Red Cin. The latter displayed keen speed in his trial on Wednesday when he was timed a mile in 1:40 handily, covering the six furlongs in 1:13. The remainder of the field includes Dorchester Farms Batter, E. C. Piatts Doubter and J. Strassells Beauty Blen. Racing secretary L. H. Van Zandt, acting for Charles Henry in the latters absence, has carded an appropriate afternoons entertainment for the holiday opening. Supporting the main attraction is an allowance event for two-year-olds bringing together seven of the better juveniles on the grounds. Five sprints and three contests over a route of ground comprise the days schedule. Ideal conditions are promised to make the opening a large success. Preparations have been made .for one of the largest inaugurals Clevelands suburban track ever enjoyed.
