i WHIRLAWAY Whirlaway Slated to Make Initial Start Of Season Today in War Admiral Purse Calumet Champion Faces * Valdina Orphan and Five Others in Homewood Test HOMEWOOD, 111., June 21.— Warren Wrights Whirlaway makes his first start since he won the 5,000 Louisiana Handicap in New Orleans in mid-December when he takes .art in the War Admiral Purse, mile headliner of tomorrows program at Washington Park. With his sights set on such rich fixtures as the Stars and Stripes, Arlington and Washington Park Handicaps, each endowed with 0,000 in added money, Whirlaway will swing back into action tomorrow against a field that includes his own stablemate, Mar-Kell, Valdina Farms Valdina Orphan, H. H. Haags Devalue, Miss Helen Hickmans Aonbarr, Louis B. Mayers Kings Abbey and Mrs. George Stempels Put In. Whirlaway, who can add ,650 to his already record lifetime earnings of 60,911 by winning tomorrow, hai been carefully and patiently prepped for his first race in more than six months and this morning completed his training with an easy half mile breeze in :51. The mighty son of Blenheim II. was taken out of training last winter, some time after he won the Louisiana Handicap, and was given an extended rest, which trainer Ben Jones says has benefited him greatly. To Rule Pronounced Choice The Wright five-year-old, with the shifty Mar-Kell as a running mate, will rule a pronounced favorite tomorrow, but those he tackles should make it interesting for him. Valdina Orphan is one almost certain to give Whirlaway a lively battle, for he can reasonably be expected to show improvement over his performance in the La Salle Handicap at Hawthorne, when he ran second to Aletern. That was his first race in a long time: He ran once during the Keene-land spring meeting and before that in New Orleans during the winter, where he won the LeCompte and Natchitoches Handicaps. Another who Is likely to acquit himself commendably is Devalue, one of the stars of spring racing in New England, where he captured the Rhode Island and Roger Williams Handicaps at Narragansett and the Paul Revere Handicap at Suffolk Downs. Even the others have enough to recommend them to suggest they will make their presence felt in tomorrows feature. Under the conditions of the War Admiral Purse, Whirlaway will shoulder 122 pounds to 118 for Valdina Orphan. Mar-Kell, herself a stakes winner this year, gets in with 105 pounds, while the others have been assigned 110 each. Mar-Kell achieved her most notable success of the year when she won the Washington Birthday Handicap in New Orleans. Another Warren Wright worthy scheduled to start tomorrov is Sun Again, who has started but once this season, that in the Henry of Navarre Handicap at Belmont Park in which he finished fourth.
