0 Gansett Charity Sport Gets Clearance of Treasury Dept. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 12.— Clearance was received this morning by president James E. Dooley from the Treasury Department and from the Collector of Internal Revenue, Washington, D. C. for the operation of Narragansett Park on Friday and Saturday in behalf of the American Red Cross War Fund. The clearance amounts to a government permit for the Red Cross to operate the track for these two days absolutely on its own and as a separate and distinct corporation from Narragansett Racing Association. Not being equipped for such an undertaking, the Red Cross in turn appointed Narragansett Racing Association as its agent. This arrangement becomes necessary under the treasury rulings which strictly limit the charitable donations of any corporation to a small percentage of their total turnover. Under the plan as used at Narragansett, the association donates all facilities of the plant and the services of all its officers free of charge. Narragansett will also absorb all overhead and standing charges. Other expenses are cut to a minimum and the difference between the receipts and the expenses Is the Red Cross profit.
