, | 1 1 1 ■ t r 5 - I 1 i . . j » Award Silver Julep Cups j In Many Keeneland Races Owners of Seventeen Farms Hare i Features Named in Their Honor j LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 12.— The practice j j of awarding silver julep cups to owners of • the winners of seventeen of the more im- I portant overnight races at Keenelands meeting will be in vogue again this spring , when the session opens at Churchill Downs : on April 15. This is in addition to the attractive trophies which go to the winners I of the stakes events. Presenting of cups j was inaugurated five years ago and since j j that time several hundred cups have been j ; presented. This spring, however, may be the last time for the duration that the cups can be I awarded to winning owners because they j | are no longer available. The seventeen i ; j which will be presented this spring were in i i the Keeneland trophy room before manu- • i facturers halted production. The cups are presented to the winning , horsemen by owners of the farms for which 1 1 the respective races are named. Among the ! farms which are presenting the cups this 5 . . spring are Charles T. Each cup is engraved d j with the name of the race and the date on n ; which it was won. Many of the winning g owners have added the name of the horse e which won the race. Each of the five stakes run regularly at it t Keenelands spring meetings includes a 1 trophy, and the winning owner in the W. H. Shelley Handicap, named in honor of the j veteran racing official, also will receive a handsome trophy. All become permanent fc property of the winner, except the historic 2 Lexington Bowl, which the winner of the - j 0,000 added Blue Grass Stakes retains s for one year.
