Emil Thiry Funeral Services To Be Held Thursday Morning Services for Emil Thiry, 73, racing handicapper, former boxing referee and fight manager, who died at his home here Sunday morning, will be held Thursday at 10 a. m. from Schmidts chapel at 2834 Irving Park Road. Solemn high mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Troy and Montrose avenues, will follow at 10:30 oclock. Thiry, who made his home at 525 West Barry Avenue, had been in failing health for the past year. His death, however, was attributed to a heart attack. As a racing handicapper under the nom de plume of "Railbird," he had been a member of the sports staff of the Chicago Herald-American for the past 20 years, Previous to his affiliation with that publication, he was identified with boxing. He managed Packy McFarland, among others. He was born in Luxembourg and came to the United States 70 years ago. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Anna J. Rose, of this city, and a brother, Gene, of j Detroit.
