Several Classic Hopes Named for Volta Purse Fighting Don Slated to Return To Competition at Homewood HOME WOOD, 111., June 27.— Several nominees for the Arlington Classic, including Mrs. Gertrude Donovans Fighting Don, are among 11 three-year-olds scheduled to meet in the seven-furlong Volta Purse at Washington Park tomorrow. Fighting Don, winner last year of the Great American Stakes at Aqueduct, will be making his first start of the year, and his performance tomorrow will go a long way toward determining what kind of chance he may have with the countrys best horses of his age. Fighting Don had some leg trouble during the winter and this misfortune so delayed his early spring training that he missed his engagement in the Kentucky Derby, but under careful and patient handling his connections believe he now is ready once more for the rigors of competition. Three other eligibles for the Classic also are in tomorrows feature. They are the Indian Rocks Stables Darien, the Murlogg Farms Bergolator and Mrs. A. B. Karles , K. Doe-Doe. Their performances also will be watched closely since they too may be ! racing in stakes before the local season j ends. Others in the Volta Purse are Corina Lark, Rockwood Sonny, Fire Ahead, Glorious Star. Roytig. In the Bag and Gallantry. I The Bunting Purse, a sprint of six fur-; longs for older horses, drew so many nomi-: nations that racing secretary Fred Burton j decided to stage it in two divisions. In the first division are such horses as Ruditaurug, Juke Box, Gem W., Remembering, Aiandr, Merrymarch and Song o War, while in the second division are Santa Claus, Putit-there, Liberty Pan, Legislator, Mr. Rabbit, Robert F. and others. Six able turf course performes will meet over a mile and a sixteenth on the gr»«3 in the Colin Purse. Named for this 500 event are Beautiful II., Alatlag . Jamenoa, I Five A.
