G. Bedwell to an easy victory in the mile and 70 yards East Wind Purse which featured a well-balanced program today at Suffolk Downs. Approximately 16,000 witnessed the card staged under the clearing skies and over a track which improved as the aftemcon wore on. Ridden by Al Shelhamer, Hammer-Lock led from the drop of the flag to the finish, reaching the stands five lengths before B. A. Darios Slender Lady. J. Tabellarios Halcyon Night was third, ten lengths before Ted Gardner. A bang-up fourth in last Saturdays Constitution, Hammer-Lock was staunchly backed and paid .40 after completing the mile and 70 yards in 1:44. Pin Up Girl, a fractious filly, occasioned a delay at the start, then messed up the break considerably when she bore over on Ted Gardner, costing the latter several lengths. Slender Lady forced Hammer-Locks pace throughout but never seriously threatened the victor.
