ELEANOR VAN, very slow to begin but much the best, came to the inside entering the stretch and, after disposing of FANNIE MAC, drew out to win with something left. FANNIE MAC assumed command early, made the pace to the final furlong and held on willingly, but was no match for the winner. TOUCH OF TIME lacked early speed, but made a good bid when roused for the drive, then weakened nearing the finish. BONA DEA, forced wide on the final turn, could not get to the leaders when straightened. EXTRICATE was eliminated at the start. TIDY MOON forced the pace to the stretch, then drifted out while tiring. EVER STAR bore out on the final turn, losing all chance. SIS-PLIN was done after a half mile. Tidy Moon claimed by Donna-Ray Stable. Touch of Time claimed by 0 Sole Mio Stable. Bonna Dea claimed by H. Josephart. SECOND RACE 3-4 MILE out of chute. MANDAS FIRST went to the front early, responded readily when ridden out .through the stretch and increased her advantage steadily during the final furlong. CHARLES BRYCE, never far back but on the inside from the beginning, made a good bid when set down in the drive, but could not reach the winner. FLASH A TAN, forwardly placed but on the outside from the beginning, finished determinedly in the middle of the track. ASTOUND lacked early speed. GRAND FLASH could not threaten and did not appear to like the muddy track. MAJETO began sluggishly. TOLECA broke fast, but failed to stay after showing early speed. MIDHY was done early. BAR GRENADE went to the front at once, shook off G00DF0RME after three furlongs and drew out to win as his rider pleased. G00DF0RME, away alertly and forwardly placed to the stretch, held on willingly when set down in the drive, but was no match for the winner and just lasted to withstand SKI DAD. The latter, slow to begin, saved ground on the final turn and closed determinedly under urging. DISSENSION SIR raced evenly without mishap. K. BUN tired badly after racing prominently to the stretch. REMBIRD, a sharp factor from the start, went to the front entering the stretch and, permitted to swerve during the drive, lasted to withstand PHOTO LIGHT. The latter worked way forward steadily after beginning slowly, was blocked by the winner when moving up during the drive and could not reach the latter. ETN0M, on the inside and in the deepest going throughout, reached the lead approaching the stretch, but faltered during the drive. IMPERATOR could not threaten under good handling. LITTLE STING began slowly. RIVER SCOTCH broke fast, but could not keep up. ELBEKAY failed to stay after showing early speed. UMPYDAN raced evenly to the last eighth, then weakened. CRACK REWARD, away sluggishly, was hustled to reach serious contention during the first quarter, then tired. TAKE COURAGE went to the front at the start, gave way momentarily to BETTY GRABLE after a furlong, took command again and, establishing a clear lead before reaching the stretch, continued stoutly to outlast SEALANE, despite drifting out during the drive. SEALANE, on the outside throughout, responded readily when roused for the drive, but could not overhaul the winner. SENATE, on the inside and outrun to the stretch, finished fast under punishment. DANCING ARCHIE began slowly and never was a serious factor. BETTY GRABLE, much used engaging TAKE COURAGE during the first half, had nothing left for the drive. NINE R. OFF AT 5:31 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME. Start good from stall gate for all but BOB MURPHY. Won driving; second and third the same. BOB MURPHY, much the best, stumbled at the start, worked his way forward steadily to the stretch and, overcoming interference when forced wide by BRIGHT STEEL, outlasted the latter while under vigorous handling. BRIGHT STEEL went to the front early, was permitted to establish a long lead, drifted out while tiring during the stretch run and could not withstand the winner, although easily best of the ohers. CASTEL BEAU saved ground hroughout, then failed to rally when set down for the drive. PETROSE GIRL could not keep up after showing early speed. HYPERHELIO was far back throughout and would not extend himself in the muddy footing RISKAIRE never was prominent and had no mishap. BROOM RIDE was done early.
