Riders of Former Belmont Winners See Race BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y.. June 1.— Six riders of former winners of the Belmont Stakes were on hand to see todays seventy-eighth running of the classic. Joe Scherrer ranked his colleagues in seniority, having ridden Marcus Dalys Scottish Chieftain back in 1897, when the race was run at Morris Park. George Odom, who rode Delhi for J. R. Keene in 1904 and saddled Pasteurized for Mrs. W. Plunket Stewart in 1938; Roscoe Troxler, rider of Prince Eugene in 1913; Merritt Buxton, who piloted Luke McLuke the following year; Earl Sande, who scored aboard Grey Lag, and Tommy Malley, who was Fairenos rider in 1932. were present in the stands or on the lawn. In addition, Eddie Arcaro, who won three Belmonts on Whirlaway, Shut Out and Pavot, and Johnny Longden, who won on Count Fleet, had mounts in the race today.
