OFF AT 2:17J EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. TOWNHOUSE, well placed under light restraint to the far turn, moved up with a rush nearing the furlong pole, disposed of BLACK TEMPEST inside the final sixteenth and was drawing out. The latter took the lead when BRAS TEDDY weakened, then held on gamely under a steady drive. SUNCLAD, forwardly placed in the first quarter, dropped back on the turn, then came again when roused entering the stretch. HIGHLAND MISS raced evenly. SISTER G. moved up fast on the outside to gain a prominent position, then failed to gain under pressure. SINGER FACE closed a gap. BRAS TEDDY weakened after the first half mile. PLAYING POMP showed nothing. FLEET BROTHER was unable to keep up. LEATHER BOUND had brief speed. MENACE was outrun. HEWINEASY dropped back after a quarter. TOWN HOUSE worked out a mile in 1:41%. BIM0NT, slow to settle into stride, responded to stout pressure midway of the final turn, circled the field on the outside and continued on the outside to get up in time. CO-LAWYER disposed of BABOMAC on the turn, drew clear, then held on tenaciously in the final stages. BIG THICKET was rushed up on the inside to gain a contending position, was caught in close quarters entering the stretch, then closed willingly when clear. BILLY PERRY was well placed to the head of the stretch, was closing fast on the inside and had to take up when unable to find racing room. BRAZIL weakened after showing good early speed. BABOMAC was sent into command at once, then tired nearing the head of the stretch. GALLONG was unable to reach the leaders while racing on the outside. The others were never serious factors. Gamble; bred by William B. Watkins. WENT TO POST— 3:20. OFF AT 3:20 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. CLOUDY WEATHER was within striking distance of the early pace and, not hustled, moved up fast midway of the far turn, continued to gain entering the stretch and wore down TWO DOWN inside the final furlong to draw out at the end. The latter assumed command soon after the beginning, drew clear under light urging, was shaken up when challenged and held on with good courage to the end. TYRONE, outrun to the final quarter, closed fast through the middle of the stretch under intermittent pressure. SIR KID improved his position steadily after trailing early. SCARLET PANSY, unable to keep up in the first quarter, was sent up between horses on the turn, then weakened. VAMPIRE was used up forcing the pace for a half mile and tired in the late stages. WAKE ROBIN lost ground entering the stretch and failed to gain under pressure. SEA VICTORY showed brief early speed. Scratched— 97551 Neat Kee, 103. CO HATTER was sent into a commanding lead in the first quarter and maintained her advantage under light urging. FLAMING HIGH, in closest attendance of the leader from the beginning, was unable to gain under pressure on the turn and was weakening in the final sixteenth. PHANATAM, slow to settle in best stride, closed fast on the inside through the stretch. NONYAW made up ground in the final furlong after being outrun to the head of the stretch. MISSMENOW made a bid on the far turn, then flattened out in the drive. UNCLE MOSE was never a serious factor. FIRE KABO was well up for a half mile while saving ground, then weakened and was not persevered with in the final stages. SPEED UP REARED BACK IN THE GATE UNSEATING THE RIDER. UPON EXAMINATION BY THE STARTER SPEED UP WAS ORDERED WITHDRAWN AND ALL MONIES WAGERED WERE REFUNDED. Scratched— 993893 Little Hoops, 116; 987512 Speed Up, 107. FIFTH RACE 3-4 MILE out of chute. SHINY PENNY, showing keen speed from the start, disposed of WINDMILL entering the stretch, then was hard ridden to hold AGRARIAN-U safe at the end. The latter was on the outside turning into the stretch, responded to pressure to reach the leader nearing the seventy-yard post, then hung. HY-CHARLIE, in between the leaders from the start, was sent to the inside entering the stretch and closed with good energy under strong handling. WINDMILL was sent to the front in the first quarter, set a sizzling pace to the middle of the final turn, then held on gamely when displaced. JOHNNY JR., unable to keep up early, saved ground entering the stretch and responded to vigorous handling to close fast in the final furlong. SPANGLED GAME trailed to the stretch turn, then closed with a belated rush on the outside. BUSYRIDGE was unable to reach the leaders and was not punished in the final stages. PLAY BOB was outrun. PHIDIAS, under a tight hold and running earily while close to the leaders for the first half, moved up on the outside still under wraps, assumed command with ease, came out to the middle of the stretch and won as the rider pleased. PROGNOSIS broke alertly, was lapped on the outside of LABOULAYE rounding the first turn, followed close behind the pacesetter to the five-eighths post, then moved into the lead, saved ground and held on gamely when displaced by the winner. TIM B., outrun for a half, saved ground entering the final quarter and closed with a rush on the inside. LABOULAYE was sent up on the inside going to the first turn, came out with a clear lead, then held on well to the head of the stretch, where he faltered. GAY MOONBEAM had no mishap and was never a serious factor. DANNY J. was through after a half and was not punished through the stretch.
