Cadillac Handicap Tops Week-End Detroit Card Sir Sprite, Umpydan, Air Sailor May Clash in Sprint Headliner FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 1. —The Detroit Racing Associations 1946 season has been successfully launched and the second full week of sport will get under way at the Woodward Avenue course on Monday. Several good attractions are listed for decision during the next six-day period, chief of which is next Saturdays running of the 0,000 Cadillac Handicap, a six-furlong sprint for three-year-olds and upward. The ,000 Black Gold Handicap will be the chief supporting event of the half-holiday card and it will match three-year-olds at one mile and one-sixteenth. Among those horses expected to go post-ward in the Cadillac are O. F. Woodwards Sir Sprite, victor in the 0,000 Col. Alger Memorial Handicap; W. L. Huntleys Umpydan, who accounted for the 0,000 Boots and Saddle Handicap on inaugural day; Albert Wellman s locally owned Wise Paisano, possibly Theodore D. Buhls crack Air Sailor and Grissom and Shermans Unconditional. Several other outstanding performers that may accept the issue in the Saturday headliner are A. F. Walls improved Tiger Man, Jess Trents Castle-man, a stakes winner in New England last year, and W. E. MacDonalds Tulachmore. The Black Gold should attract a good field from the three-year-old division and the race may result in one of the better offerings of the current meeting. David Fergusons Bob Murphy and Ariel Ace, Mrs. George C. Whites Bright Steel, Mrs. B. Hernandez Riskaire, R. S. McLaughlins Wee Admiral, Hyperhelio and Gregalach; Raymond Ankenbauers High Ego and Clifford Lusskys Spirsilla are possible nominees. Ariel Ace and Gregalach finished first and second, respectively, in the Decoration Day Handicap and the pair probably will resume their duel in next Saturdays route offering. Wednesdays card at the Fair Grounds will feature the Three Rivers Handicap and the Bull Dog Handicap. The former, which is at six furlongs, is to match four- year-olds and upward, while the latter is for horses from the same age division to meet at one and one-sixteenth miles. Providing the turf course is in good shape for the midweek program, a mile and one-sixteenth test is scheduled and it is expected to draw a capacity band of capable grass-track performers.
