Historian, Historian, Tiger Tiger Rebel Rebel Seek Seek Lincoln; Lincoln; Seven Seven Go Go in in 5,000 5,000 Yankee Yankee Handicap Handicap Blue Yonder Aims For Fifth in Row Augustus Three-Year-Old Meets Up With Phidias and Cable in Suffolk Headliner SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 7. — The eleventh running of the 5,000 Yankee Handicap, mile and three-sixteenths test for three-year-olds which will feature tomorrows card at this track, has aroused a great deal of interest locally. All indications are that a large throng will turn out to witness what is expected to be a battle between a trio of late improving three-year-olds, Mrs. E. H. Augustus Blue Yonder, William Helis Phidias and Mrs. A. Wickfields Cable — because New England racing fans realize that in the past the Yankee had produced challengers for supremacy in the three-year-old class who were late in revealing their best form. Assault was not nominated for the Yankee, but it develops now that it is just as well that he wasnt because Max Hirsch has announced in New York that he is going to give the Bold Venture colt a short rest. As Assault has convincingly whipped all the three-year-olds whom he has faced this year, it may be that the Yankee will produce a new challenger, just like Challedon, who had whipped Johnstown in the Preak-ness and then bowed to him in the Belmont, found himself again In the Yankee of 1939 and then went out to Chicago and soundly trounced Johnstown in the Classic. Adams Forced to Pass Up Mount In addition to Blue Yonder, Phidias and Cable, the field for the Yankee consists of Brosnan and Halleys Danny J., Mrs. D. Hol-lingsworths Kendor, Mississauga Stables Chance Player, and Weston W. Adams* Gay Moonbeam. The latter will start only if the track remains fast. Blue Yonder, because of four straight victories, including his score in the Chesapeake Trial Stakes, probably will go to the post as the favorite. Trainer Jimmy Rad-ney originally planned to have Johnny Adams come over from New York to ride the chestnut son of Ariel, but Adams couldnt make it because of a previous com- Continued on Page Four Yankee Handicap to Bring Out Crack Field of Seven Continued from Page One mitment. At a late hour today Radney still had not engaged a ride for the horse. William Helis Phidias, a galloping winner in the Constitution Handicap last Saturday and Mrs. A. Wickfields Cable, third to Assault and Natchez in the Belmont Stakes, will vie for the position of second choice in the wagering. Cable, off his improved showing in the Belmont, plus the fact that he drops 16 pounds off that assignment, probably will be made the second choice by a narrow margin, but Phidias will receive strong local support because of his race last Saturday. Ferril Zufelt will ride Phidias while Herb Lindberg, who rode the Rosemont colt last week, has been engaged to pilot Cable this Saturday. Behind Phidias, Cable and Blue Yonder there does not appear to be any others in the race capable of taking down top money unless something should reveal a surprising improvement in form, overnight. All have had races recently and revealed nothing to cause the supporters of the aforementioned top trio any concern. The secondary feature of the card is The Trial, a mile and 70 yards prep for the fillies and mares eligible for the running of the 5,000 Hannah Dustin Handicap which drew a field of nine. Among those eligible who will go to the post in this event are William Helis Elpis, L. Sidells Layout, Ruth Sidells Burgoo Maid, Irvin Gushens Lusty Tidbit, Kumstock Lodge, Inc.s Stepping Miss, T. C. Melroses Mel Gavano and A. Schlagers Jamoke. A. Ryans Ellen Mist and Lou-Hyl Stables His Daughter, who are not nominated for the Hannah Dustin, are also in the field.
