WEJACK raced STEP I NTH EDARK into defeat after a half mile and withstood the drive of LEADERSHIP. The latter was always a forward factor on the outside and fought it out willingly. TAVISTOCK raced under restraint to the stretch, closed some ground and should improve with the education. STEPINTHEDARK weakened badly after being hard pressed while setting the pace. Won driving; second and third the same. -NIGHT STRIKE assumed command from the outside, held sway under good handling and was under pressure at the end. NORA BELLE raced well placed from the beginning and rallied well to be getting to the winner in the final stages. ROCKWOOD ARGO, slow to settle in best stride, cut to the inside in the early stretch and closed fastest. HYGROS GINGER saved ground while pressing the pace and faltered. SCOTSUN weakened early. MESL showed good speed from her outside position, was driven into a commanding lead leaving the backstretch and was under intermittent pressure at the end. FAOL rallied well In the final furlong. PENNY REWARD was going throngest of all at the finish. ROYAL GOVERNOR showed early speed, but may have been crowded a trifle leaving the backstretch. DOG OSULLIVAN, unhurried when slow to settle into stride, rallied under pressure through the stretc hand was up In the final strides. TONYS FIND, steadied when unable to outrun QUICK NEWS, displaced that one entering the stretch and held on tenaciously. SUNHELIO was unable to take the lead and failed to rally. BOSSINEY was steadied briefly while on the inside leaving the backstretch and raced evenly thereafter. NOBLE ONE rallied too late. DESERT RATION could not keep up. POLYNESIAN, always forwardly placed, was well handled while improving his position and, after taking command leaving the turn, held sway under intermittent pressure. BROOKFIELD, taken under restraint early, moved through on the inside while reaching contention, but could not menace the winner. NEW MOON showed good speed throughout, but weakened in the final test. TRUE NORTH set the pace under stout restraint, then flattened out when set down for the drive. HAPPY BUCKIE raced evenly. BLACK GANG had no mishap, but was not good enough. L0VEMEN0W, steadied while pressing the winners early pace, held on determinedly but could not stay with the winner through the stretch. SCHOOL TIE moved between horses leaving the half-mile pole, but failed to show anything thereafter. LOVAT, hard held while within striking distance of the pace, flattened out when set down for the drive. PELLICLE lacked early speed and failed to rally when placed to pressure.
