Natchez Never Headed In Kent at Delaware Equals Track Mark to Defeat Lovemenow in Easy Fashion DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 8. — Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Natchez runner-up to Assault in last weeks Belmont Stakes, led from flag-fall to finish to score an easy victory in the ninth running of the one mile and a sixteenth Kent Handicap here today before a sweltering throng of approximately 20,500 wildly excited, but approving fans. Equalling the one mile and sixteenth track standard of 1:42% under his comparative feather of 108 pounds, Natchez roared past the finish five full lengths clear of Cedar Farms long shot, Lovemenow, who had raced in nearest pursuit of the pace from the start. While never a threatening factor at any stage of the race, Lovemenow was easily second best, earning that position six lengths before Green-tree Stables School Tie and three other thoroughly defeated three-year-old rivals. Capably handled by Conn McCreary, who was scoring his third Kent Handicap triumph, Natchez received a resounding ovation from the enthusiastic throng who had backed the fine colt into a staunch .20 favorite. Natchez earned 2,100 in registering his first important victory of the season. The start was effected without undue delay and McCreary sent Natchez to the front immediately. The glistening chestnut colt was under stout restraint as he went into the lower turn with Lovemenow and Dirl in closest attendance. Lovemenow clung right to the leaders heels as they straightened out for the long run through the backstretch and the race provided one of its minor thrills when Al Snider aboard Lovemenow went to the whip in a vain effort to bridge the gap leaving the back-stretch. Midway on the turn it was apparent to all that Lovemenow was unequal to the momentous task and Natchez gradually drew clear to make a rout of the race in the final furlong.
