J. C. Stones Sgt. Spence took the show money from the Brolite Farms Me Again. A five-length winner in his last start, and wll seasoned with a pair of efforts at Sportsmans Park, The Dude lost the spotlight before the race got under way when the crowd of 12,930 centered their betting activity on Fighting Frank, a classy colt who had made but one start this year in April at Tropical Parw. But when it came to running, the light chestnut racer had his inning. He picked up 113 pounds and ran one of the fastest six and one -half furlong races of the meeting, chalking up 1:18%, after forcing the early pace that was clocked in :23% for the quarter; :47 for the half, and 1:1156 for the three-quarters. Racing Strip at Its Best Conditions for the afternoons sport were I fair to middling. The racing strip was at its very best but just before the horses went postward for the opening race, the wind shifted and the mercury took a sudden drop to catch several thousand in the audience off their guards without adequate warm attire. Fighting Frank was one of the hottest favorites of the meeting, being held at 50 cents on the dollar, and, during the early part of the race, he appeared to be worthy of such confidence. He broke smartly and Freddie Smith was swinging in the saddle to keep him under reserve as he led the way dow nthe backstretch and around the turn, and it was Sgt. Spence who offered the only resistance during that part of the race. As he made the final curve, however, the little horse with the big heart began to roll at his best clip and it was with hardly any noticeable effort that he neatly put away the Sergeant. Arriving at the eighth post, he found Fighting Frank still clear, but showing signs of fatigue from his blistering early pace. The Gaal color-bearer never relented in his dogged drive and at the sixteenth marker he shouled his nose to the front, then drew away nicely. The Dudes next stop will be at Arlington Park, where he will have a fine chance to prove once and for all whether or not Continued on Page Three Windfields Chalks Up Third Triumph in Row at Aqueduct Continued from Page One at the far corner and quickly swept into the lead. Once passed, Tidy Bid literally collapsed while Islam Prince also called it a day and War Watch set sail for the leader. Lindberg stung Wingf ields a couple of times in the stretch and big brown colt responded willingly, holding the War Admiral colt safe under pressure. This victory may have earned Windfields a chance to start in Saturdays 0,000 Dwyer Stakes at a mile and a quarter, a race for which he and War Watch are both eligible. The second successful favorite of the day prevailed in the Gowanus Purse that followed the feature, when Jule Finks Magellan drove to the end of the mile and a sixteenth a little less than a length before Marlboro Stud Farms Damos. Mrs. Eddie Mulhenans Bulrush finished a length and a quarter away in third place, a couple of lengths before J. M. Jerkins Crack Time. Magellan paid .10 and was timed io 1:48%, while doing his best.
