Shelby Claiming Purse Draws Field of Eleven Our Style, Joyce W. and Paloma Linda Test Speed in Detroit Dash FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 10. — The program for tomorrow at Detroit is an ordinary one, but the conditions of the eight races have been so arranged that there is a promise of keen contention in each of the events. Three-year-olds hold the spotlight when 11 of that age are engaged in the six-furlong Shelby Claiming Purse, in which the entrants carry price tags ranging from ,500 to ,500 In the matter of values, however, the Ann Arbor Claiming Purse is tops with a claiming variant from ,000 to ,000. Three of the eight races are over a distance of ground and these include the Gratiot Purse, which is at about one mile over the turf course. Novice riders get their opportunity in the six-furlong fourth race, while maiden two-year-olds will vie for their first success in the five-furlong dash that is third on the card. It is a fair band of a dozen older sprinters that meet under allowance conditions in the six- furlong second race. In the Shelby there is a promise of keen competition between T. D. Buhls Our Style and Steve Valentis Joyce W. The former has a score at the meeting to his credit, while the latter has an excellent opportu- nity to atone for her recent narrow defeat when she was installed favorite. Both of these will be facing stiff opposition from Herman Josepharts Paloma Linda, who attested her present fitness and a fondness for this track in a recent success. The nine furlongs of the Ann Arbor will give Bonds Mill Stables Iron Works opportunity to continue in his obvious good form. Winner of a race here and runner-up in his latest outing, he should retain that good form to make his presence felt. C. Williamsons Paducah looms as a formidable opponent in this field. Suited at the distance and with a creditable second recently to assure peak condition, this one could upset calculations. Huntsman, M. H. Van Bergs recent acquisition, is not overmatched with this caliber of competition.
