Sportsmans Event Lures Ten to Post Juke Box, Dots Risk and Bank Balance Meet Over Mile and Sixteenth Route SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, HI., May 2. — One of the finest programs to be offered at this course has been assembled by racing secretary Horace Wade for Saturday. Headed by two handicaps and supported by claiming races for horses in the higher brackets, the excellent card is brimful of potential and interesting contention. The ,000 Hawthorne Handicap holds the center of the spotlight, and in this 10 of the best of the handicap division quartered here have been named in nine interests to contest the one mile and a sixteenth distance. The River Forest Handicap, which is at six and a half furlongs, is for a prize of ,500, and here seven speedsters will vie for honors. The Hawthorne is particularly alluring because of the probable meeting between Joenace Stables highweight Juke Box, Vir-den and Scotts Bank Balance, and Dots Risk, who will represent Kirkpatrick and Turner. Juke Box suffered a nose defeat from Bank Balance in the seven-furlong Inaugural Handicap a week ago. For tomorrows engagement, Bank Balance picks up five pounds to 110, while Juke Box is asked to shoulder 123, one pound more than his Inaugural burden. Both finished stoutly in their Inaugural tilt, Never Extended in Woodlawn Dots Risk compels respect by her loping score in the mile and a sixteenth, Wood-lawn Purse, on Thursday. The fleet daughter of Wise Counsellor was never extended in that test under 107 pounds and is asked to carry only two more pounds in the Hawthorne. These three are not alone in attracting attention in the Hawthorne. Ben Fogelsons Petsome was unplaced in the Inaugural but must have needed that race to perfect her condition. The daughter of Petrose turned back some stalwart opponents in better class races at Oaklawn Park, N. L. Raffelmans Coley Bay accounted Continued on Page Nine Sportsmans Handicap Event Brings Out Field of Ten Continued from Page One for consecutive victories at New Orleans in his latest outings. Happy Hour Farms Cherry Wine was second on opening day to Builder to attest present fitness. E. R. Freijes Forum rates serious consideration on the strength of his fourth in the Inaugural in which he was beaten a neck and two noses. He set the early pace in that venture and could upset all calculations. Walloon and Gigolbury are the H and S Stables representatives. Gigolbury was unplaced in Dots Risks Woodlawn. Wallooon carried 124 pounds to success in an ,000 claiming race at the Hawthorne distance here the other day. His weight is 109 pounds in the Hawthorne. Hilltop Stock Farms Topnard completes the field under 110 pounds. Unplaced in the Inaugural, a score here would come in the nature of a surprise. The River Forest field promises keen contention also. Joenace Stables Go Devil, under 113 pounds, was a bang-up third in the Inaugural after losing much ground. Ben Fogelsons Pomps Gal, topweight under 114, has a creditable fourth over the track to complete her conditioning. Mrs. Valenti, who races for Mrs. C. Valenti, was a handy winner at five furlongs on Monday. W. T. Beezleys Bentbrook has gone through training moves impressively and has had a tightener over the track. Siddons, the only three-year-old in the field, displayed keen speed in western races. W. H. Bishops Mayfly is right on edge and the field is completed by Mrs. J. H. Woodcocks Periair, the lightweight of the field with Siddons under 104.
