Phalanx in Short Drill CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky.. May 2. — Phalanx, overnight favorite for the Derby, was given a surprise three-furlong drill after the third race here today. Phalanx stepped through the mud in :37, handily, then galloped out an extra furlong. His regular exercise boy was in the stirrups.
