PILATES MISS, fractious at the post, had to have a rider substituted, broke well in the race and, responding to strong handling during the final quarter, disposed of ARIEL ACE in the last stride. The latter went to the front at once, made the pace until near the finish, then faltered ar.d could not hold the winner. BIG BROTHER lacked early speed, but finished very fast. SANDSLINGER, far back early, closed determinedly under punishment. JIMPIN could not keep up. DIAMOND DICK faltered after racing prominently to the last furlong. ARTILLERIST had no excuse. HASHCAMP could not threaten. BYMEABOND quit after shewing speed to the stretch. The latter saved ground while in hand to the last three-eighths, came gamely when hard ridden through the stretch, but could not overtake JACK S. L. LETMENOW went to the front early, saved ground while making the pace for six furlongs, then weakened. BOB MURPHY drifted out while tiring during the drive. MATTY M. made the pace for three-quarters, then tired. SURIBACHI had early speed. QUATRE BLANC gave way after racing prominently to the stretch. BOWSTRING was never dangerous.
