4 Three Dots Never Headed In Seasons Bow at Downs Holds Length Advantage Over Cid Play in Pensive Handicap CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 10. — Three Dots, seven-year-old gelded son of Good Advice and Brune, carried the J. H. Rouse silks to a front-running triumph in the Pensive Handicap here at Churchill Downs today. Well handled by Don Scurlock, the Rouse star reached the finish of the six and one -half furlongs sprint a length before A. M. Creechs Cid Play, who was second by a length and a quarter in advance of Valley View Farms Superwolf, third in the field of eight starters. Shouldering top weight of 120 pounds in his first 1947 engagement, Three Dots stepped the Pensive distance over the fast strip in 1:19%. One of several choices to visit the winners circle during the half holiday matinee, Three Dots returned but 7 to 10 to his backers. Scurlock, alert at the start, sent Three Dots into command at once and Sir Sprite raced in nearest pursuit of the ultimate victor until well inside the stretch. Cid Play, who was to figure seriously in the final result, was no better than fifth passing the half-mile marker, while Superwolf, away last, was in seventh position. 25,000 Witness Program Entering the stretch, Three Dots established a clear lead and he then moved along steadily without the need of urging, retaining his advantage in the run to the wire. Cid Play closed determinedly under punishment, but the Creech gelding could not overtake the winner and he was under pressure during the late stages to save the place award over the fast-finishing Superwolf. Sir Sprite vas a weary fourth after his display of early speed. Chilly but clear weather prevailed in the Falls City area today and an enthusiastic crowd of some 25,000 thoroughbred followers witnessed the half -holiday program at the Derby oval. The final stakes of the spring meeting, the 0,000 added Bashford Manor stakes, five furlongs dash for two-year-old colts and geldings, is a traditional fixture here and the event undoubtedly aided in bringing out the banner gathering. The track was at its best and running times for several of the better offerings were excellent.
