| Blenweed Closes With Rush Tq Annex Nantucket Purse SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 19. — J. L. McKnights very erratic and roguish veteran, Blenweed, responding to the hustling tactics of Georgie Hettinger, battled his way to a hard-earned victory in the Nantucket Purse here this afternoon before a crowd of 14,228 thoroughly chilled turfites. The coal black gelding turned what seemed to be certain defeat into victory when he unleashed a powerful drive in the last sixteenth of a mile to gain a nose decision over the favored West Fleet, It was the second victory of the season for Blenweed, who seldom runs two races alike and who often bolts to the outside fence. In the Nantucket he raced smartly throughout under Hettingers handling and was timed for the three-quarters in 1:12%. A Calumet cast-off, Blenweed was once used as a work-mate for the worlds leading money-winning thoroughbred, Whirlaway. Early in his career, he was regarded as an outstanding prospect, but because of his wild-eyed antics, Calumet disposed of him and since he has often been seen in claiming company. Facing him today were some of the better sprinters on the grounds, and West Fleet, who threw his rider in a previous start, was established a warm favorite. West Fleet showed his usual excellent performance and appeared within a stride of victory when Blenweed swept ahead of him.
