Cosmic Bomb Gets Top Yankee Impost Expect Atomic Power to Be Starting Topweight at 123 For Suffolk Downs Stake SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 19. — The Rarco Stables nimble Atomic Power, impressive winner of the Constitution Handicap last week-end, undoubtedly will be the starting topweight in the 5,000 Yankee Handicap here Saturday, according to the weights released today by racing secretary John Purcell Turner. Turner has assigned the heaviest burden to William Helis Cosmic Bomb, but there is less than a remote chance that the colt will go. It is reported that Cosmic Bomb came out of his engagement in the Preak-ness slightly on the sore side and that he will be freshened up before being brought back to competition. Cosmic Bomb drew 126 pounds from Turner. Atomic Power, who passed up the Derby and who was not eligible for the Preakness, started for the first time since his effort in the Chesapeake Stakes in the Constitution here Saturday and at the finish he was well in front of all rivals and drew clear. He carried highest weight of 119 pounds over the one mile. The Yankee is carded at a mile and three-sixteenths and it is not in the least surprising that Turner added several pounds to the Bel Aethel colts burden, assigning him 123 pounds. According to trainer Merritt A. Buxton, Atomic Power came out of the race in grand shape. Atomic Power is not believed to be the most sound horse on the grounds. As the field paraded for the race, a number of turfites who backed the colt into odds-on favoritism, were quite concerned when he was rather extensively warmed up. Riskolater May Start in Race Next in line, according to Turners weights, comes C. C. Tanners Colonel OF and Circle M Farms Riskolater. Both are allotted 122, but the former is an extremely doubtful starter. Riskolater, it is reported, may be shipped here, pending trainer B. B. Williams scrutiny of the weights. Riskolater closed considerable ground in the Derby, but failed to repeat that effort in the Preakness. Other leaders in the three-year-old division weighted are Secnav, 119; W L Sickle, 118; Michael B., 117; Silee, 117; Stepfather, 117; Donor, 116, and Jobstown, 115. Of those, W L Sickle, Michael B., Silee. Stepfather and Donor are in the doubtful class. Because of a sharp shift in the weights over last week-ends Constitution, Jobstown will attract considerable attention regardless of the competition. He carried 118 in that feature and is dropping three pounds, while Atomic Power picks up four, which creates a seven-pound shift. According to trainer Ed Lucas of the Helis stable, End of Strife will race coupled with Jobstown. He is to be shipped from New York to join his stablemate. As the sport moves smartly into its semifinal week tomorrow, a six-furlong dash for three-year-olds, known as the Wigwam, will feature the program. Eleven have been named for this allowance dash with a ,500 purse and the probable favorite is Mrs. H. C. Wolfes Herbie G., a gelding who showed one of the fatest efforts shown by a sophomore this season. This occurred in his last start when he bounded out into a clear lead at the start, then held on well to negotiate six furlongs in 1:11 fc, beating the same class of competition he faces tomorrow.
