► JACK S. YOUNG — Detroit presiding steward, arrived at the Motor City course in preparation for Saturdays inaugural. Big Field for Detroit Opening Feature Seen Stalls at Fair Grounds Rapidly Filling for Saturdays Inaugural PAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 19. — With a host of top handicap thorough-reds already on the grounds and others due to arrive within 24 hours, the Detroit Racing Association yesterday announced completed plans for the opening of its 73-day meeting on Saturday. Detroits racing colony will be at full strength by tomorrow as some 400 thoroughbreds arrive from Churchill Downs and other Kentucky points. The arrival of these horses will bring the number of thoroughbreds at the Detroit track over the 800 mark. The best of these horses will be here to take a crack at the 15 0,000 handicap events and the 15 ,000 races scheduled by secretary Charles F. Henry. Featuring the opening day card will be the 0,000 Boots and Saddle Handicap over six furlongs and the ,000 Man o War Handicap over a mile and one-sixteenth. Jack S. Young, presiding Fair Grounds steward, also will arrive from Louisville. Young was the steward representing the Kentucky Racing Commission at Churchill Downs and Keeneland this spring. Charles A. Bray and A. L. Copland, two Detroiters, are associate stewards. Other officials for the coming meeting are Charles F. Henry, racing secretary; Frank Otis, Allan W. Lee and William Mil-ner, placing judges; James Donovan, starter; William G. Kelly, paddock judge, Frank Ray and Kelly, patrol judges, and George Peterson, timer. Indications are that the Boots and Saddle Handicap will find trainers asking weight assignments for 30 horses or more. Such sprinters as Diamond Dick, Sir Sprite, Air Sailor, Many Lands, The Man, Big Wash, Dimit, Roi Rouge, Memphis Bud, Tiger Man, Powdered Milk, Bold Question, Boy-Plin, Rip Away, Valdina Craft, Sweep-nito, Kingarvie, Imperator, Likeasnot, Arial Ace, Crack Reward, Darby Dimout and Billy Bumps are among the logical candidates.
