Crack Field of Ten in Havre Feature Five Are Eligible ] To Week-End Race Blue Yonder, Alexis, Turbine, Shivaree and Beau Wynn Go In Todays Alliance Purse HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 19.— Five prospective candidates for the 0,000 Havre de Grace Handicap, which will headline Saturdays program here, are among 10 overnight entries mustered for tomorrows featured one mile and a sixteenth Alliance Purse for four-year-olds and upward. The Havre de Grace eligibles are Mrs. E. H. Augustus Blue Yonder, N. S. Soavas Beau Wynn, Christiana Stables Alexis, Turbine, from the estate of Mrs. H. Lebo-witz, and Miss Margie Fishers Shivaree. In addition to this quintet, the field comprises Mrs. H. K. Haggertys Rampart, H. J. Aprils Mescara, Taylor Leatherburys Split the Wind, Henry L. Straus New Moon, and Morris Pricketts Spanish Uhl. Presence in the overnight Alliance field of such sturdy members of the local handicap division as Blue Yonder, Alexis and Turbine, lends the race considerable color and one of the best middle -distance contests of the meeting is anticipated. Under the conditions of the Alliance, Blue Yonder and Turbine will shoulder 124 pounds, while Alexis will take up 119, trainer Jack Healy taking advantage of the apprentice allowance. Turbine, who developed into a formidable member of the handicap division last year, may rule the favorite in the rather wide-open race, although the speedy son of Burning Star — Lucky Jean ran very poorly in his last race at Pimlico in which he was soundly beaten as an odds-on favorite in the one mile and a sixteenth Git-tings Handicap. Smart observers may be prompted to ignore that race entirely, however, and go back to Turbines previous effort at Havre de Grace in which he won at a mile and a sixteenth in time that was only four-fifths of a second off the track record. The Pimlico track was decidedly dead this spring and the Heinicke five-year-old may not have fancied the footing. Certainly he is a far more capable performer than his Gittings effort suggested. Started in Philadelphia Blue Yonder launched his seasonal debut in the Philadelphia Handicap on opening day of the current meeting, but the fine son of Ariel — Reighzelle was not sharp enough to cope successfully with such fleet sprinters as Pep Well, Air Patrol, Rippey and Sea Snack at six furlongs. Blue Yonder finished sixth in the Philadelphia, but showed a good effort and should turn in a vastly improved performance tomorrow, especially at one mile and a sixteenth. Alexis last race was in the historic Dixie Handicap at Pimlico and the Christiana runner brought up the rear behind such high-class opponents as champion Assault, Rico Monte, Talon and Natchez. The Dixie may have been a bit too far for Alexis because he faltered steadily in the final eighth of a mile after setting a sizzling pace to the far turn. Alexis should prove a far more formidable contender over the local track and against such as he will meet tomorrow. Although he is primarily a sprinter, the fleet New Moon has indicated on occasions that he is equipped to stretch his speed over a route. The chestnut son of Discovery — Lady in the Moon did just that last Thursday, when he trimmed a good field going a mile and 70 yards over a muddy track. New Moon won with speed to spare and will prove decidedly dangerous if he runs back to that smart effort. Beau Wynn has been on the shelf since the Bowie meeting early in April. He has worked satisfactorily, but can be conceded only an outside chance at best. Shivaree won a sprint race at Pimlico and finished a good second behind the greatly improved Gorget in a subsequent engagement over a distance of ground during the current meeting. Rampart is a highly competent mare when at her best, and recent races suggest she has obtained top form. Mescara, Split the Wind and Spanish Uhl are only ordinary competitors and a triumph by any one of the trio would occasion no little surprise.
