Jockey Billy Floyd Engaged To Ride for Woolford Farm HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 19.— The powerful Woolford Farm today secured the contract on jockey Billy Floyd. Impressed by the manner in which Floyd handled the horses of the stable at this meeting, where he has already won two races and finished second twice, trainer Leonard J. Wilson signed the 18-year-old from Hugoton, Kan. Floyd, who rides at 108 pounds, was somewhat of a sensation as an apprentice last year. He gained his first saddle experience as a bareback and relay rider at rodeos, and when he branched out as an apprentice, he met immediate success leading the riders at Phoenix, where he won more than 60 races in 36 days. He followed up this record by leading the riders at Fairmount Park last year with 48 winners during a 30-day meeting. Floyd rode for Monte Weil with considerable success last year, and it was on Weils recommendation that he was given a chance with Woolford. Under the tutelage of trainer Wilson, himself a capable saddle artist, Floyd should go far. He has already learned to wait with his charges, and made it quite evident in his local victories that he can put up a strong finish. An amateur fighter of some experience, Floyds hobby is boxing. Woolford Farm agent, Johnny Nerud, will handle Floyds engagements.
