Officials for Ak-Sar-Ben 30-Day Meet Announced R. A. Leigh, Sr., to Serve as Racing Secretary, Presiding Steward AK-SAR-BEN. Omaha, Neb., May 19.— Ak-Sar-Ben s official family for the traditional 30-day race meeting opening a week from Tuesday was announced today. R. A. Leigh, Sr., of New Orleans, veteran turf official, will head the Ak-Sar-Ben staff in the position of racing secretary and presiding steward. A. J. Heffernan, of Chicago, who has held every position from exercise boy up to presiding steward on many midwest tracks, will also return to Ak-Sar-Ben as associate steward. Leigh, Jr., will again serve as clerk of scales and placing judge. Charles Mul-laney, also of New Orleans, will serve as paddock and placing judge, and Lee Van Hoorebeke, of Phoenix, Ariz., will serve as entry clerk. Eddie Killian, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Wahoo, Neb., will again occupy the announcers booth. Frank Carra. of Chicago Heights, 111., and L. Kindle, of Bismarck, N. D., will act as patrol judges. The track will be under the general supervision of J. J. Isaacson, who has been manager the last 12 years. James R. Ronin. described recently by Daily Racing Form as one of the nations leading track maintenance men, will again serve as track superintendent. Coincident with the announcement of the official family, Ak-Sar-Ben governor, James P. Lee, chairman of the racing committee, reported that more than 600 horses are on the ground, with new arrivals pouring in steadily.
