Mount Marcy Assigned 121 for Clark Handicap Johns Joy Topweighted at 122 But Is Racing in New England CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Handicapper Fred Burton today posted weights for the seventy-sixth running of the Clark Handicap, which is to be decided" here- on Thursday. The Clark, always one of the Derby week highlights at the Downs, promises to match a good field at one mile and a sixteenth. The middle distance stake was well patronized this year, 42 thoroughbreds having been nominated for the race. Calumet Farm declared Armed, Coaltown and Bewitch before imposts were assigned and 39 horses are weighted for the Clark. John Kinards Johns Joy, who presently is campaigning in New England, drew the top burden of 122 pounds, while C. V. Whitneys Mount Marcy, victor in Keenelands Phoenix and Ben All Handicaps, is next with 121 pounds. Dixianas Fleeting Star, who won the Churchill Downs Handicap on inaugural day, gets in with 119 pounds and trainer Jack Hodgins stated this morning that the Fisher homebred will be under silks in the Clark, barring a mishap between now and post time.
