NICOTINE GAL raced evenly to the stretch, was kept to the outside for the drive, responded to strong handling and wore down the leaders during the last sixteenth. GAY TEMPO went to the front early, made the pace until near the finish, but could not withstand the winner. ON VELVET steadily improved her position and closed fast in a sharp effort. SCORELESS raced prominently until inside the stretch, then faltered. MISS PLACE lacked early speed. RUTH MURPHY had early speed, then tired during the late stages. TURVEYTOWN went wide entering the stretch. MISS MIM JR. began sluggishly. SLIPAROUND was never a serious factor. ISIT CASH, forced to the outside by TURVEYTOWN at the stretch turn, failed to recover. A foul claim against the winner by BIDDY BIDS rider was not allowed. BIDDY BID went to the front early, engaged HOLLY SWEET after, the start and, impeded slightly by the latter during the final sixteenth, failed to withstand the winner. RUHE began sluggishly, steadily improved the position to the stretch and closed willingly while racing on the outside. BUCK B. failed to stay after showing early speed. JOGGINS was outrun. SPRING CHIMES assumed command at the start and set the pace to the final eighth, then faltered. MY SISTER had no mishap. SCOTCH BIM never was dangerous. BIG PING tired. FLOATING was outrun. REIGH BELLE, in hand early, moved up fast approaching the stretch, swerved to the inside during the drive, impeded LANGUID LADY and WAGRAM, then won going away, but had little left FIRST DEGREE raced wide throughout, finished well in the middle of the track, but could not seriously threaten the winner. LANGUID LADY went to the front early, was tiring when bothered by REIGH BELLE and, taken up sharply nearing the furlong pole, failed to recover. JAL gave a good effort and had no mishap. WAGRAM raced well from the outset, dropped back when caught in the jam in the stretch caused by REIGH BELLE, then tired. CHECK UP failed to stay when set down for the drive. PLUCKY PRINCE raced nearest SUGAR BEET to the stretch, responded to mild urging thereafter, took command and won going away. SUGAR BEET was hustled to the front early, made the pace until inside the stretch, then faltered when challenged by the winner, but lasted to hold SKY TRAIN safe. The latter lacked early speed, but finished willingly under urging. FOURTH DEGREE was outrun early, could not better his position when set down in the drive.
