Joins Downs Announcers CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Joe Hernandez, popular California racing announcer, will work with the Downs broadcast crew during Derby Week and he reported today to president Bill Comm. Hernandez will be at the public address microphone for all stakes and feature events, .relieving Gene Schmidt, regular Downs mike man. The West Coast sports figure will wind up his duties here next Saturday, May 6, Derby Day — and Schmidt is then to finish out the spring meeting.
