Meyer Suspended and Fined For Throwing Ball at Umpire * NEW YORK, N. Y.. May 1.— UP — President Ford Frick of the National League today suspended pitcher Russ Meyer of the Philadelphia Phillies for seven days and fined him 00 for throwing a baseball at umpire Al Barlick in a game against the Boston Braves yesterday. The rumpus occurred in the first game of a double header when Meyer covered first base on a squeeze bunt by Earl Tor-geson which scored Sam Jethroe from [third. Meyer heatedly claimed that Tor-geson was out to retire the side. He threw the ball backwards and it struck Barlick in - the leg. *" After that he "chested" Barlick and manager Eddie Sawyer had to lead him to the bench when Barlick ejected him from jtthegame
