COZY CORNER, off alertly, was taken in hand after going a sixteenth of a mile, responded to pressure when roused nearing the final turn and got up in time. ROYAL FLAME took command after racing a quarter mile, held sway until reaching the stretch, then could not resist the winner in the drive. LARKMEAD LASS forced the pace to the head of the stretch, then faltered. NEZ BEAU was far back early and made up some ground. LASSIES LADY went slightly wide entering the main course and showed nothing thereafter. THORNITA, fractious during the post parade, unseated her rider, then fell backwards, knocking one of the bars from the inside rail, was off slowly and lacked speed during the race. ELTURBIE was hustled to the fore at once, stole a long lead on the backstretch, then tired slightly in the stretch, but held on tenaciously. ROSIE CHINN forced the pace the entire trip, moved up with a rush in the stretch, but could not get to the winner in time. TEDDYS TEA was reserved off the early pace, made his bid after nearing the final turn and closed fastest of all. BORDER PAT was shuffled back leaving the starting gate, .was far back for five furlongs, then caught tired horses near the end. The others had no apparent excuse. POINT JUDITH, off with the first flight, pressed the pace of VOGTS FIRST, disposed of that one on the backstretch and drew away, steadily increasing his margin as he went to win as his rider pleased. EIREANN, under restraint earl,y moved up willingly when called upon, but was no match for the winner. VOGTS FIRST assumed command soon after the start, dueled with POINT JUDITH for about a quarter of a mile and tired from his efforts. LOCUST LILLY was never a serious factor. HONEY BUN dropped back steadily. PHARAWIN was practically eliminated after the start The others had no mishap. BLENEL, under a snug hold during the early -running, improved his position gradually and responded when roused nearing the far turn, came with * belated rush in the stretch and reached the wire in time to defeat PURE BRIAR. The latter showed speed from the outset, was sent to the front, lost the lead to .CHEROKEE STAR temporarily, resumed command again and showed the way in the stretch, but could not hold off the bold charge of the winner. BUS V. Z. lacked early speed, then closed resolutely. PYRONE improved position from the beginning slowly, but could not seriously Menace. The others were outrun. JEWELWAY forced the pace throughout, was taken along the rail entering the stretch, saving ground, but could not overhaul the winner. BOSSY KID broke swiftly, was shuffled back shortly after the start, raced well when clear and showed a good effort SELL SHORT began tardily, raced well but was not good enough. LAWLESS MISS was always within striking distance of the leaders and, under restraint early, disposed of DARK BUCKLE approaching the final elbow and was drawing away at the end. KING PINE worked his way to a contending position after going three eighths of a mile, made a bold bid in the stretch, but was no match for the winner, DARK BUCKLE set the pace to the head of the stretch, then faltered. SHORT REIGN lacked speed to be with the leaders at any stage. MORE FLAME dropped back steadily. ROYAL LUCK-could not keep up. HAND ME DOWN could never menace. Scratched— 00258 Weatherman, 109.
