BROWN FOX drew clear after disposing of UNAIDED, gave way to THE ORPHAN nearing the end, then showed surprising tenacity to outfinish his rival. THE ORPHAN, sore going postward, rallied well along the inside to get his head to the fore approaching the end, then gave way. DOLLYS IMAGE vied for the lead through the first half mile, then weakened. UNAIDED showed early speed to duel for the lead, but faltered in the final test ARDENT MISS failed to threaten. MAXIM MISS was outrun. HONEY ETHEL was through early. JOE MANDELL showed nothing. TIARA V. had no chance with the start. BALKAN, allowed to settle into best stride, saved ground while commencing his rally, swung to the outside to engage the leader and proved best in the final test. He went out a full mile in 1:39%: OUIJA was rated within easy striking distance, wrested command from the outside and drew clear, then showed gameness in the drive. MISTAMBO saved ground to loom a threat, but was no match for the top pair. RED SWING pressed the pace and quit. MAKE SWING held a comfortable advantage along the backstretch, remained in front rounding the turn, then flattened out EASTERN FLYWAY had very poor action and was outdistanced. GRAY AUNTIE tired after offering her challenge in the early stretch. TIPSTAFF raced forwardly and weakened. DESERT RAID and NIGHT MARCH moved together, but were not good enough.
