Maharaja of Rajpipla, Famed Indian Horesman, Dies at 61 LONDON, England, April 30 Reuters. — - The Maharajah of Rajpipla, whose horse Windsor Lad won both the Epsom Derby and St. Leger Stakes in 1934, died in his ■ home at Old Windsor near Berkshire Sun- day morning. The 61-year-old prince, one of Indias s wealthiest men, had extensive racing con- nections in both his native land and Eng- land. The Maharajah ruled the 1,600 Q square-mile State of Bombay with its 206,- _ 000 inhabitants and despite his extensive possessions and wealth he was a man of f comparatively simple taste. The Maharaja sold Windsor Lad for 50,- 000 pounds sterling and had other horses s that captured the Irish Derby and Irish h Guineas. His stable was located at New- market and was under the management of f trainer Fred Armstrong. The prince was a a I keen horseman since childhood, when he f a a won a junior show event at the age of eight. Later he gained considerable rec-e ognition as a polo player.
