Pirates Send Hurlers Pettit And Dempsey to Indianapolis PITTSBURGH, Pa., May 14 UP.— The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned Paul Pettit, a 00,000 bonus pitcher, today to Indianapolis of the American Association in their second mound staff cut. Con Dempsey, up from the San Francisco Seals for a "look," also is being returned. The Pirates still have four more players to cut to get under the player limit. Pettit, 19, who was signed when he came out of high school after some wild bidding among major league clubs, had appeared in only two games this season, pitching a total of two and two-thirds innings in relief. He allowed one earned run. He played last year with New Orleans, winning two and losing seven. Repeal of the bonus law permitted the Pirates to send him back to the minors this year for more seasoning.
