T. ■ tl t: Dates for Florida Season Allotted by Commission Schedule Same as Last Season; No Scholarship Day for Hialeah MIAMI, Fla., May 14. — Hialeah race course again received no scholarship date today when the state racing commission awarded dates to the four Florida horse tracks. Only three were allotted — to Tropical Park which opens the season on November 30, and to Gulfstream Park which closes April 21 with one scholarship date, also Sunshine Park on the West Coast. In brief, Tropical got 41 days and Gulf-stream 41 with Hialeah, although requesting 41, getting only 40. Sunshine may run scholarship day as it pleases. James Donn, president of Gulfstream, protested again as he did last year that did not think it fair for his Hallandale course to give up one of its best dates when the law prescribes that the three tracks in this area should run 40 days and the scholarships are extra and also optional. The state racing commission awarded Tropical Park 41 days — November 30 through January 16; Hialeah Park, January 17 through March 3, and Gulfstream Park, March 4 through April 21. The past season Gulfstream ran not only the one extra day for the Scholarship Fund for state colleges but also the second extra date which Hialeah was unable to take. The commission held in abeyance any allotment of the third extra date but it may go to Gulfstream again. Donn expressed a willingness but he insisted that he must have the full approval of the other two tracks. Brady with attorney Lee Worley represented Tropical and Donn was present on his own behalf but Sam McCormick of Hialeah informed Edwards that his mother was seriously ill and he would have to remain away although if he was needed he would come to the commission office if telephoned. Instead, Edwards phoned him of the situation and McCormick acquiesced in what they were doing. Sunshine Park race track at Oldsmar, Fla., was granted 49 days as asked from January 20 to March 17 and was given permission to run one more day for the Scholarship Fund.
