L. I., N. Y., May 14. — Duval Headleys Crownlet, winner of the Lafayette and Debutante Stakes in her last two Kentucky starts, heads a field of 12 juvenile fillies in the fifty-thir«d running of the Fashion Stakes at Belmont Park tomorrow. This is a 0,000 added dash down four and a half furlongs of the Widener straightaway that has in past years been won by such good fillies and ultimate producers as Prudery, Nellie Morse, Friars Carse, Pandera, Bateau, Orissa, Motto and Apogee and, more recently, by Beaugay and First Flight. Crownlet has to carry 119 pounds tomorrow, conceding from five to nine pounds to all of her rivals except Myhelen Stables Gallies Pride. The latter won her last start at Jamaica and her previous start in Florida and has been training fairly sensationally at the Metropolitan Jockey Club track. Bobby Baird will ride Crownlet, who beat colts at Keeneland in the Lafayette, then scored impressively over the best of the mid-western fillies in the Debutante at Churchill Downs on Derby day. Gallies Pride will have the services of Eddie Arcaro, which is hardy a disadvantage as the straight course requires a degree of experience on the part of the jockeys. Other Winners in Line-Up The other winners in the Fashion are Vera S. Braggs Goddess, Sunshine Stables Blessusgals, M. H. Kurkjians Chrisinda, Leslie Combs H.s Linden Lane, Foxcatcher Farms Faberose and Edward M. OBriens Isograde. They all carry 114 pounds. The others in the Fashion are maidens. In this category are Hal Pride Headleys Papoose, Cain Hoy Stables Hushaby Baby, George D. Wideners No Score and J. W. Schiffers Cigar Maid. They get in with 110 each. Headley won the Fashion with the maiden Remove last year, while in 1949 Wideners Rare Perfume graduated in this event. The Fashion was also the occasion for the first victory of C. V. Whitneys brilliant First Flight in 1946. Blessusgals and Linden Lane finished behind Gallies Pride at Jamaica, but have showed speed at times. No rider has been named for Blessusgals, but Ovie Scurlock, a good chute rider, will be on Linden Lane, a daughter of Roman — Stepwisely. Isograde, who will be ridden by Arnold Kirkland, scored a surprise victory at Jamaica last week. Goddess, who has no rider assigned, also won last week, while Faberose, who will be piloted by the veteran Maurice Peters, won a little earlier in the Jamaica meeting. Isograde has the favorable outside post position, while Goddess has drawn the inside post and Faberose is in the middle. Not too much is known about the maidens in the Fashion, beyond the fact that they wouldnt be in the race if their connections didnt think they were of stake caliber. On paper, of course, the dash lies between Crownlet and Gallies Pride, but only three fillies in the past 20 years have been able to win the Fashion with 119 pounds. They were Glorify in 1932, Motto two years later, and Caltha in 1947. JAMES FITZSIMMONS— Sent out Hyphasis to register a surprise score in the Toboggan at Belmont Park.
