Churchills Horse Wins Race Named for His Owner HURST PARK, London, England, May 14 Reuters. — Winston Churchills Colonist II. won the race named after Britains war-time prime minister, the Winston Churchill Stakes, run over 14 furlongs. Ridden by Tommy Gosling, Colonist II. beat King George VIs Above Board by two lengths, while Maj. R. Buchanan Mac-Donalds Star Spangled Banner was another length and a half farther back in the field of seven. French horses had been successful in this race for the last three years, but Colonist II. had revenge for his defeat by Wild Mec last year by beating todays French challenger, Fast Fox, who ran fourth. Colonist II. started as third choice at 9 to 2, with Above Board 4 to 1 and Star Spangled Banner favorite at 100 to 30.
