Change in Speed Ratings RatingsEffective Effective with the racing of January 1 1952 the speed ratings appearing in DAILY RACING FORM past performances are based pn a comparison of each horses running time with the track record The track record will receive a standard rating of 100 thus a horse equaling the record will have a speed rating of 100 For each onefifth second slower than the track record one point is deducted Therefore the rating for a horse running his race two and onefifth seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 100 minus 11 EXAMPLE EXAMPLETrack Track record 110 110Winners Rating figure 100 100Rating Winners time l10Vs Rating 99 Time of second horse 110 97 Time of third horse 111 95 Time of fourth horse 111 93 Time of fifth horse 111 One point the equivalent of onefifth second is deducted from the rating for each length the horse is beaten Thus a horse beaten four lengths in a six furlong race run in 111 rating of 100 where the track record is 110 is timed in 11156 receiving a speed rating of 91 91Where Where a horse breaks the track record his speed rating will exceed the standard rating of 100 by one point for each onefifth second faster than the track record Thus if the record is 110 and a horse is timed in 109 his speed rating will be 102
