Sherry Jen RiteSpeed Drill for Miss America AmericaBreeze Breeze Four and Five Furlongs Respectively for Saturdays Race RaceHAWTHOBNE HAWTHOBNE Cicero 111 June 10 Two more prominent candidates for next Saturdays 15000 Miss America Stakes tested the sloppy track here at Hawthorne this morning and gave evidence of their readiness for their important weekend en ¬ gagement in this first stakes event of the Illinois season fashioned exclusively for twoyearold fillies filliesThese These were Sherry Jen owned by Mrs O S Deming of Cynthiana Ky and Bite Speed property of Bert Chiles and Walter Kislin of Bockford 111 the former breez ¬ ing three furlongs the latter fiveeighths with their exercise boys up Sherry Jen was timed in 40 over the sloppy track and BiteSpeed in 1109 Sherry Jen a chestnut daughter of Sun Again Quittance by Hyperion bred by Calumet Farm has won three of her seven starts and is already a stakes winner achieving that distinction in the first divi ¬ sion of the Gulfstream Turf Club Dinner Stakes at the Florida track on March 17 She had previously won a maiden race on February 12 by three and a half lengths In the stake she had a two and a half lengths margin over her closest opponent opponentOn On April 15 the Deming filly met Bite Speed in the Youngsters Purse at Gulf stream the latter winning by a neck from Bills Captain while Sherry Jen was sixth This was the first of three consecutive wins by BiteSpeed a brown daughter of Bold Irishman Cindy Lee by Bull Lea bred by her present owners After beating Carrier Girl in a maiden race at Gulfstream the Chiles Kislin filly won the Up and Com ¬ ing Purse at that track by three lengths over Sam Brook BrookFollowing Following her defeat by BiteSpeed the next start for Sherry Jen was here at the Lincoln Fields meeting on May 27 in the Bellwood Purse She turned in one of the best performances by a twoyearold at this meeting beating Tenacious Ace by more than two lengths Third that day was Brent Harts Bollins Kappy a previous winner and also a candidate for the Miss America Still another prospective starter for the Miss America F E Harpers Okla ¬ homaowned My Dream Lady was in th beaten field The latter had won her first start on March 3
