Committee Recommends Dates Be Given by Weeks WeeksStates States California Tracks Should Decide on 5 or 6Day Operation OperationSACRAMENTO SACRAMENTO Calif June 10 Declar ¬ ing there should be no reason why racing at some major race tracks should be com ¬ pelled to operate six days a week in the North to obtain a fair proportion of the racing days allowed by law a Senate In ¬ terim Committee on horse racing has rec ¬ ommended that racing dates in the state be allotted by weeks so as to give the tracks the choice of racing five or six days a week The committee disapproved of the current setup which allows some tracks to operate five days a week and obtain the same num ¬ ber of racing days as those which must operate six days a week weekThe The Committee also said racing seasons should be the same for all major tracks as they now are in northern California where a rotation system exists but that southern California tracks are getting preferential treatment in being permitted to race during what they claim is their best season Such a formula said the committee works an inequity against other race tracks tracksThe The committee also declared something should be done to avoid the conflict in racing dates between major northern tracks and country fairs and the state fair fairThe The California Horse Racing Board was commended for its work but the commit ¬ tee found that many of its rules are un ¬ necessary and suggested that it have its own attorney It now has one deputy at ¬ torney general in each section of the state stateSenator Senator Harry L Parkman R chair ¬ man of the committee also had a good word to say for lacing itself declaring that racing in the state was conducted on a high standard furnishing clean sport to the public as well as being a heavy con ¬ tributor of revenue
