Crevo-lins Determine scored his smashing victory in the 1954 Kentucky Derby he put an end to the supposition that a gray horse couldnt win the Derby. In accomplishing: his task, Determine suc- L ceeded where the great Native Dancer failed in 1953. The Dancer, of course, bowed to Dark Star, but suffered from bumping, giving all the more credence to the "gray jinx" that finally was i broken by Determine. There were four grays nominated for ! the 1955 Derby. They were Eugene ; Constantin, Jr.s Ocean Lane, Hasty --. House Farms imported Summer Solstice, W. J. Lewis Jr.s Royal Mon and Maine Chance Farms Friendly Ace. * Seven roans are among the 125 nominations for this years Derby. 1 They were Barclay Stables Blazing Count, Lazy F Ranchs Door Prize, Clif- ford Mooers Treadgold, C. V. Whitneys Smoky Hill, Sam E. Wilson, Jr.s ! Challa Boy, and • Ernest H. Woods Junaluska and Mighty Chief.
