Refurbished Beulah Park Opens Up 20-Day Meeting Brook Haven and Early Traffic Top Ten-Horse Inaugural Field By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 6. — The Beulah Park. Jockey Club will open its doors tomorrow for a 20-day spring meeting which should, from all indications, surpass any of the previous records for wagering and attendance. There is a new infeld "tote" board in complance with the Ohio law, and the plant itself has been refurbished and refinished to be one of the prettiest of the major tracks in the state. Robert J. Dienst, who took over the reins of general manager and president of the club at the same time, has literally made history with the rapidity which he had things done. A veteran of the construction business, he doubled the size of the clubhouse, enlarged the parking lots, re-paved roads, and, in general, changed the exterior appearance of Beulah Park in a truly decorative manner. The clubhouse is without a doubt, the most lavish one in the state. The true horse fan, as. well as the astute art critic, will find some excellent paintings of thoroughbreds and two, one of Man o War and another of Native Dancer, have been done by the noted Allan F. Brewer, Jr., of Lexington, Ky. The opening day card is spotlighted by the running of the traditional Inaugural Purse. This event has varied from a claiming event, to an allowance race and to a handicap, during the last 10 years, and this spring will again be contested under allowance conditions. The group are either three -year-olds or older and with a six-furlong setting, there are 10, including a coupling, to vie for a portion of the ,600 purse. Included in the group are the C. McCool entry of Brookhaven and Solar Bid, the Arbywood Stables Lonoke, Flash, H. Rector, Jr.s, Moon of Heatrs, F. M. Ashbys Early Traffic, T. McDermotts Dustpan, Mrs. L. Frys Best Air, E. Eorbers Ferol S., the Fefnem Stables Siren Song and the Midwest Stables Uncensored.
