Six Derby Winners Have Sired Winners of Downs Classic CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 6. — Although several of the 80 past winners of the Kentucky Derby nave proved successful as .stallions, only six have sired subsequent winners of the classic. Winners begot by sires who were good enough to account for the Derby are Alan-a-Dale, 1902 by Halma, 1895 ; Burgoo King, 1932 by Bubbling Over, 1926 ; Omaha, 1935 by Gallant Fox, 1930 ; Count Fleet, 1943, by Reigh Count, 1928, Assault, 1946 and Middleground, 1950 by Bold Venture, 1936 and Count Turf, 1951, by Count Fleet, 1943. The Reigh Count — Count Fleet — Count Turf combination is the only one in Kentucky Derby history, with the three generation male line carrying off in the Kentucky classic. Reigh Count, himself r is by Sunreigh.
