Dick Welles Selections SelectionsAt At Aurora ISAlllIEUltY LU3I BEK JACK ST NICHOLAS NICHOLASBARBERRY BARBERRY looms as the most probable winner of the opening number a dash of threequarters for platers He is in cowl form at the present and needs but to race as well as he did on his last appearance at Akron to again be home the winner He is a natural front runner and is quick to get in motion With a limit size field likely to go postward this should be to his advantage as he may be able to avoid the inevitable crowding KILAUEA should be able to get a piece of the purse money here if he would run any kind of a race He was decisively beaten in his only start here but can do much better ST NICHOLAS failed miserbly in his initial start but we think he is better than that race showed him to be and look for him to be much closer up in this race ILLINOIS KING put up a fair performance his last out and if he runs as well today may again be in the money moneyMAYOR MAYOR HEHRMAX COLLEEN O Of the maiden juveniles which hook up in the second tilt MAYOR BKHRMAN looks like the best play He has run some good races at the Fair Grounds at New Orleans and at Lexington but was never quite equal to the task His last start here found him finishing second to Mayberry and it was an effort such as to suggest that he is in the best form of his career right now He should step out in front today and lead all the way COLLEEN O showed a decided im ¬ provement in his last start here and if that effort was no fluke may be the one to take down the place money TAME A seems to race better over a fast track and with normal conditions again prevailing may duplicate her last race and again account for the show end of the purse CUBAN FLAG is showing improvement and is liable to horn in the money at the finish finishKOSSIAX KOSSIAX CLOPORTE MARY CONNORS CONNORSWhat What looks to be a good play is spotted in the third a five and a half furlongs dash This one is KOSMAN a Tijuana performer which will be making his first start here of the local season He is strictly a sprinter and while racing at the border course more than paid his way In his last out there he took into camp some good ones If he would show the same brand of racing today should be the one to score CLOPORTE has been close up in her last four races winning once and then finishing second in the next three This all happened at Colum ¬ bus and if she has not trained off may be the one to run to the place MARY CON ¬ NORS ran one of her poor races her last out but she can do much better A race back to her Columbus form would find her close up at the finish DR HICKMAN is making his first start in a good long while If he is in the form as was his a few years back he will make things interesting for the others othersIIARYEY IIARYEY STEDMAX STAR DUST DOWNCAST DOWNCASTThe The fourth race is an allowance affair called the Expectant Purse and serves as the secondary feature on the card Con ¬ ditions call for threeyearolds to race over the five and a half furlongs distance and we are picking HARVEY STEDMAN to be the winner He did most of his racing this spring over the Maryland tracks where he wss always close up He has been working satisfactorily since arriving here and has but to run to his works to gallop home in front today STAR DUST found the pace too stiff for her in her last out and at the finish was among the also rans We are throwing out that race and expect her to race as she did at Tijuana If she does she will be the one to give the winner the most trouble DOWNCAST is still a maiden iiit is nearing a winning race and may earn brackets most any day His chances for get ¬ ting the show portion of the purse here looks good goodSTATLER STATLER SMILING GUS MISS JENNIE JENNIEIn In the feature event the Geneva Handi ¬ cap STATLER looks like a stand out He has been a long time in rounding to form but now that he is in good condition should not have any trouble in beating this field His last out here was in a sprint race of five and a half furlongs when he finished third to Strut Miss Lizzie and Pegasus The distance today is more to his liking and we expect to see him home by a comfortable margin SMILING GUS from the stable of Boots Durnell is making his first start here and should be the one to place He is an in and outer and if he elects to run one of his good races should be closest to the winner at the finish BALBOA may give a better account of himself today if given a good ride SCOOP too may go better today over the longer distance of a mile and a sixteenth sixteenthSISTER SISTER DIANA BLACK AIR HIGH A bad lot of threeyearolds are to con ¬ test over the mile of the sixth race and it is one of those kind of races where the winner is apt to come from most any source We have heard some nice things said about SISTER DIANA and for that reason are selecting her to be the winner BLACK AIRj is the only one of the eight entered that has never won a race and he gets the call for the place on that account HIGH CARD is picked to run to the show for want of some ¬ thing better betterHIDALGO HIDALGO LOLA MONTEZ PUD PUDIf If HIDALGO would run as he did in his last race which was at Pimlico we cant see how he can lose this heat He beat a much classier field on that occasion than he meets up with today and did it in a most convincing manner being three lengths clear at the finish LOLA MONTEZ is making her first start since the close of the Tijuana meet and since arriving here has been turn ¬ ing in some good moves She was given a prep Thursday morning for this race and showed she has not lost her speed She rates as the one to finish closest to HI DALGO at the finish PUD was a starter in the race Wednesday won by Max Brick j That was was run in blinding rain storm and evidently he didnt relish the experience At j any rate he did not go as he is capable of and we are looking for him to be much closer UD today One Best Bet STATLER in Fifth Eace
