DISPLAYS FINE SPEED 0 Dr. Parrish Romps Away from Opponents at Latonia. ♦ Gallops Three -Quarters in 1 : 1 1 */8 to Win Eased Up — Favorites Have Good Day. • IaATONIA, Ky., June 27. — The inconsistent Dr. Parrish, which races for J. W. Parrish, exhibited a measure of his true ability when he negotiated three-quarters in the Bronze Wing Farm Purse, the chief race at Latonia this afternoon, in the fast time of 1:11%. which equaled the best mark of the meeting. This exceptional performance, which was partially forecast by the unusually confident support he received from some quarters, permitted him to win eased up from Herrick, Hedemora and three others. Running the first quarter in :22%, and finishing the first half mile in Ao%, placed the victorious son of Light Brigade — Mary Belle so far in advance of his five opponents that the race ceased to be a contest so far as first place was concerned. All through the final quarter Dubois had a strong hold on the winner and, if need be could have improved on his brilliant performance. In the first three-eighths, Hedemora, in closest pursuit, and Herrick, which followed close behind the Hickman filly, were under pressure to keep fairly close up and, as they fought it out bitterly for second place all during the remainder of the race, the winner was far out of their range. RACE WELL. Behind them. Royal Doulton, Deluge and Deep River showed good performances, with none of them seriously endangering the closely-aligned Herrick and Hedemora in the final drive. As a result of the late support accorded the winner, he went to the post the second cnoice to Hedemora, the defeat of the latter being the third of the afternoon sustained by the public choices. It was another day of ideal weather, and the racing, as indicated by the time of Dr. Parrishs effort, was over a fast course. There was victory for the Audley Farm in the running of the introductory three-quarters race, which attracted a poor band and in which Le Flore triumphed in a close finish with Boys Preferred. Whisk Arrow headed the nine others for third place. Under an alert and hustling ride by H. Philpot, the winner was not long in reaching the lead, and after sprinting into decisive command on the turn, began tiring and just managed to last. The result of the second race, for masculine .maiden juveniles, provided one of the chief surprises when it found its winner in C. C. and G. Y. Hieatts Long Run, one of two "field" horses. Running the five and one-half furlongs in 1 :07, he vanquished Prose and Poetry by a short margin, while the ten others, of which Sunny Pal was third, were decisively defeated. They included the well backed Overboard and Selection, After Wildolive set the pace to the stretch turn, Kenneth Noe sent the winner into the lead and, though he swerved repeatedly while negotiating the final quarter, he gamely stuck to his task with a happy result for his comparatively few backers. HEADLEY WINNER. Superlove, the starter of H. P. Headley, broke a string of defeats for odds-on favorites during the past few days, when she easily accounted for the one mile and seventy yards of the fourth race, given over to a band of inferior feminine platers. Her success was the first scored by the last six odds-on choices sent to the post here and came by the decisive margin of five lengths over Louise Wilson, which easily outraced Valence for the runner up position. The winner, under an alert ride by Danny Connelly, headed the others from the first quarter and was never seriously threatened. Apprentice Kenneth Russell signaled his return to colors by hustling Virado, the capable plater in the stable of Mose Goldblatt, to victory over five other three-year-olds in the third race. Hot Shot finished in second place, with The Okah, which came in for confident support, third. The latter was making his first start since the Bowie meeting. Virados performance was fashioned after his best and true to his style, he came from behind the pacemakers with a rush in the final quarter and won going away by a length from Hot Shot The latter, after disposing of The Okah entering the stretch, held on resolutely under his impost of 120 pounds, but found the more lightly weighted winner a bit too much. W. H. Whitehouse Take Off invaded the ranks of the platers, to add another victory to his record, by taking the sixth race easily from Bud Charlton. Wingo and six other capable juveniles. Taking command before reaching the stretch, the winner drew away to win with ease and with something in reserve. Rud Charlton, which had the most early speed, fought a successful duel with Wingo in the stretch to save second place.
